Do you ever wish you could start all over with your skin and take better care of it? A chemical peel might be the answer! This October, try a fang-tastic VI Peel that exfoliates dead, summer-damaged skin to reveal brand new glowing skin underneath! In celebration of Peel season, we’re offering $25 off ANY VI Peel for the entire month. If you’re curious about the procedure and what to expect, read on below. This blog includes everything you’ll need to know about the Chemical Peel process at White Coat Aesthetics.

First off, what exactly is a chemical peel?

Peels are a common tool used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck or hands. An acid solution is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. The newly revealed, regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin and is much more clear.

How do they work?

Wearing gloves, our aesthetician will gently apply gauze containing the acid solution (Alpha-hydroxy, Glycolic, or Trichloroacetic acids are most commonly used) to the face. Afterwards, they will apply a neutralizing solution or wash to remove the chemical solution from the treated skin. The skin crusts, scales, and peels over the next few days and the new skin that grows in its place is softer, smoother, and has fewer imperfections.

Medium peels use a stronger solution that can penetrate deep enough to improve skin in one peel, and mild versions are safe for use on the neck, hands, and other areas. You can get multiple peels only at the discretion of a medical professional.

What are the benefits of a Peel?

Even regular sun exposure can leave damaging effects on your skin, meaning almost anyone can benefit from a chemical peel. Since they’re removing older, damaged skin, peels help reduce the appearance of:

Fine lines
Wrinkles
Sun spots
Acne scarring
Age spots
Crows feet
Hyperpigmentation
Melasma
Sun damage
Remember: the stronger the solution, the deeper the skin de-surfacing, and the more improvement you should expect to see.

Are they safe?

Chemical Peels are perfectly safe as long as they are administered by a trained aesthetician or medical professional. Due to the effectiveness of the formula, the acids used for chemical peels are only sold and distributed at trusted VI Partners (like White Coat Aesthetics!) who must complete special training supervised by official VI reps.

What does after-care look like?

Appointments usually take about 30 minutes to an hour. After leaving, the skin takes between 3 to 7 days to heal, depending on the type of peel. It’s important to note that after any type of chemical peel, your skin will be red, tight, irritated, or swollen, so we strongly advise you to avoid direct sunlight and use sun protection. Use gentle cleansing, moisturizing and protective ointments if needed and avoid picking, rubbing or scratching your face until you are fully healed.
